Hüseyin Ege Çakar, a young trumpet player from Ankara, Turkey, earned the Platinum Prize in the Age 12–13 category at the 2025 Season 3 World Classical Music Awards (WCMA) for his performance of Danse Napolitaine from Swan Lake. The competition took place from 21 May – 21 August 2025, with results announced in September 2025. Following this achievement, we spoke with Hüseyin about his interpretation of Danse Napolitaine, his training and preparation for the competition, and what this prize means for his musical development.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your musical journey?
Hüseyin Ege Çakar:
"My name is Hüseyin Ege Çakar. I am 13 years old and currently an 8th-grade student at Bilkent University Music Preparatory Middle School. I started playing the trumpet about four years ago, and since then, music has become the center of my life.
I continue my education with my teacher Julian Lupu, who has been living and teaching in Turkey for many years. Under his guidance, I have learned that the trumpet is not just an instrument, but also a powerful way to express emotions.
In the future, I would like to continue my education in Europe, especially in Germany, and become an international orchestral trumpet player. I truly believe in the unifying power of music and aim to grow on this path."
Could you tell us about your performance of Danse Napolitaine from Swan Lake?
Hüseyin Ege Çakar:
"Danse Napolitaine is a short but very energetic section from Tchaikovsky’s famous ballet Swan Lake. Performing this piece was an exciting challenge for me because it is not easy to reflect the lively energy of ballet music through the trumpet.
With my teacher’s guidance, I focused on breath control, tempo balance, and bringing out the dance-like character of the piece."
What does a typical practice day look like for you, and how does your family support you?
Hüseyin Ege Çakar:
"My days are usually well planned — school in the morning and music practice in the afternoon. I spend about four hours a day studying music, including trumpet, solfege, and piano practice.
My family supports me at every step of this journey. They prepare my practice environment, accompany me to concerts, and always motivate me.
Sometimes it’s hard to balance schoolwork and music, but I try to manage my time carefully. I believe that discipline is one of the most important qualities of a good musician."
