Could you tell us a bit about yourself and your journey in music, for example the schools you’ve studied at, the teachers who have guided you, and how long you’ve been studying, as well as your goals for the future?

Lya Azul Núñez Pirez:

"I started studying piano at 4 years, then it seemed like a game, and I did it because I really enjoyed making melodies with my hands. At 7 years I entered the Manuel Saumell Conservatory of Music, in Havana, and there the piano became very serious and important in my life. My teacher since little girl was Lucía Varona Lotti, who taught me to love classical music."

Could you tell us more about your award-winning piano performance? For instance, how did you prepare for it, bring it to life, or are there any interesting behind-the-scenes stories you’d like to share?

Lya Azul Núñez Pirez:

"Participate in an online contest has the great advantage that allows our work to be seen and evaluated by people and teachers from all over the world, with diverse techniques and teachings. To film the video with my program I prepare intensely, especially because in my country it is very difficult to access a good piano and filming conditions."

What did a typical day of music practice look like for you, and how did your family support your passion? How do you manage your time between training and schoolwork?

Lya Azul Núñez Pirez:

"For me a typical day it has many hours for the study of the piano, after concluding my preparation of general teaching, I also seek to go to concerts and presentations of other pianists that help me expand my understanding of music. But I enjoy everything that I do because the piano is my greatest passion."

Would you like to share your experience participating in our competition and anyone you'd like to thank?

Lya Azul Núñez Pirez:

"I recommend all children and young musicians to participate in this nice contest, because it allows you to measure the development that you are reaching with your study, as well as enjoy knowing other people who share your passion for music. I take this pretty opportunity to thank all my teachers for their teachings and love, my family and very special to my parents who support me every day to continue growing."
