Biography

Music is the common ground where all languages and emotions in the world meet. It brings different colors from every geography and every culture. On our journey to unite common emotions, we founded the Trio Capella group in 2022 as Soprano Funda Yazıksız, Flutist Şafak Ceyhan and Pianist Ayça Yılmaz. Our most important goal is to include composers from every nation and school in our repertoire, which mainly consists of French, German, Spanish, Italian and Turkish works.

When and why did you form your trio, and does playing music together hold a special meaning for you?

Trio Capella was founded in 2022. Previously, in 2021, we were giving concerts under the name Duo Angora, with Soprano Funda Yazıksız and pianist Ayça Yılmaz. A year later, we became a Trio with the participation of flute player Şafak Ceyhan. Thus, the music we make has grown with us. With the influence of the flute instrument, many French works and impressionist melodies dominated our repertoire. In addition to the works composed for Soprano, Flute and Piano, we have also created many arrangements to enrich our repertoire. We base our music making and harmony together on our friendship. We have all known each other for many years. Music has become the common ground where our friendship, characters and emotions come together. On this path, we have improved both each other and our music.

Your award-winning performance features works by Gaubert, Kummer, and Hüe—each with distinct styles, from the shimmering textures of French impressionism to the lyrical warmth of German romanticism. As a trio, how do you find a shared musical language when interpreting such contrasting pieces?

Yes, they really do have different styles. But all of them are works that have settled in our hands and minds as musical lines. Frankly, we experienced such a great integration that we could guess each other's breath, gaze and slightest movement at the beginning and end of each sentence in all three works. Before working on the works, we definitely examine the historical information about the works and the biographies of the composers. We listen to a lot of other works related to the period they lived in. In this way, we can provide a complete and correct musical expression.

Would you like to share your experience participating in our competition and anyone you'd like to thank?

Our participation process in the competition was very enjoyable. However, of course it was not like a concert performance. Recording and being recorded is perhaps more stressful for musicians who perform live. For this reason, we are in search of the perfect recording. As for the support, first of all, we would like to thank our families who have always been by our side and have never withheld their moral support from us. Because no matter how good or bad our performance was, they were always by our side. Afterwards, we would like to thank our friends and students who never left us alone during our concerts.
