Congratulations to Yiran Liu, a young composer from China, on winning the Absolute First Prize for his composition Quintet “Lively Tango” at the Mozart International Music Competition UK, 2025 Season 3. After receiving the award, Yiran shared her appreciation and expressed her gratitude for the recognition:

"Hello everyone, my name is Yiran Liu. I come from China. I'm very appreciate that I can got the first prize of this competition. And thanks for all the professors who likes my music. Thank you. And why I learn composition is because I like Bach. I really appreciate Bach's music is from one reason. Bach uses two great hands to write out melody that for piano. Because I play piano so I play Bach's music before, and I think oh his melody is so beautiful but then I find out there's not there's only one melody. There is two or more melody. Then I think oh this is interesting. So I think maybe I can try it. So I know I can't do like writing a music for those two hands and so many melody. But I know I can use other instruments like two three five instruments to make out a music. So in the Chinese history there is a sentence like this, if you don't try then you won't know if you can do it. So I tried and I did. So my music is called Lively Tango and there are five instruments, violin, piano, bayan, doublebass and percussion. So why I call it lively is because there are slow and fast in my music. I'll write more piece in my life. So I wish many people can like it. And thank you."
