Malwina Jasińska

Hi, my name is Malwina Jasińska. I am 13 years old. I am from Poland and I live in Poznań. I have been playing the piano since I was 5. Currently I am learning to play the piano under the supervision of Mrs Anna Karowska in Poznan Primary Music School of First Degree in the last, 8th grade. Apart from playing the piano, I love sports: skiing, ice skating and rollerblading.

Q: How did you start learning piano?

My piano adventure started 8 years ago, when my parents signed me up to a music school. My dad, who himself plays the clarinet, wanted me to play a musical instrument. Instead of the clarinet, I decided to learn to play the piano. I am grateful to my dad, because if he hadn't enrolled me in music school, I would never have discovered my passion for the piano.

Q: Share your experience participating in the LYM annual competition. How did you prepare, and did you encounter any difficulties?

Preparation for the LYM annual competition took me a lot of time. I spent many hours practising, but I didn’t get tired because playing the piano gives me great pleasure. Did I encounter any difficulties? Of course. DIfficulties are a part of learning any new piece. I struggled with many things, but solving problems with a new piece always gives me a lot of satisfaction.

Q: What did you enjoy most about the London Young Musician competitions?

The thing I enjoy the most about the London Young Musician competitions is the fact that I don’t have to travel, that I can record as many times as I like and then choose the performance I like the most. Apart from that, I really like the prizes, especially the statuette.

Q: How do you usually practice music? Any special methods that you would like to share with other young musicians?

I usually practice in not very long sets (e.g. 40 mins) several times a day if that is possible. On school days it is a little more difficult. I warm up playing scales and Hanon exercises for a few minutes, and then I practice my pieces. I use the metronome a lot especially to practice quick and difficult parts as it helps me to build up the tempo. I would recommend anybody to use the metronome as the rhythm and the right pulse are very important on the piano.

Q: Is there anyone you would like to thank for their support and contributions to your journey?

I would like to thank my teacher Anna Karowska, my friend Hania for playing in a duo with me and my parents for their continuous support.

Q: What would you like to say to all music enthusiasts and learners worldwide?

Keep practicing and never give up!
